In celebration of the Assos/USA Cycling collaboration this year, the fit-conscious designers at Assos released their entire line of USA pro kit to the public. Assos constructs the SS. jersey USA on the platform of its clubGear jersey, so its design has already been painstakingly tested under Assos' rigid guidelines at its R&D-heavy facility in Switzerland. In a new-meets-old design, Assos uses graphics inspired by USA Cycling's old-school kits on its ultra-modern construction. As with the rest of Assos kit, the jersey's closely contoured shape achieves its ideal fit once you get into a riding position, feeling shorter in length and more restrictive when you're standing but settling into a more comfortable, second-skin fit in the saddle. Though the graphics are a throwback, the sleeve-length is thoroughly modern with slim, folded sleeve endings and airy mesh under the arms for added ventilation. The waist hem of the jersey smartly matches the sleeve endings with a simple fold belying the painstaking attention that Assos lavishes on this small detail to ensure it holds the waist hem of the jersey in place. Other traditional touches like a full-length zipper and three open rear pockets demonstrate that the jersey is destined for far more than just photo ops; the clean zipper allows for mid-climb heat dumps while the pockets provide ample space for your dream assortment of ride candy--in red, white, and blue, of course.
